Apple's AirPort Express Now Has AirPlay 2 Support

Just in case you still have your old Apple’s AirPort Express wireless router somewhere, it’s now time to bring it out. Why? This is because it can now be used as part of an AirPlay 2 audio system.
Apple has issued a firmware update for the second-generation AirPort Express that adds AirPlay 2 support.
An update on Apple’s Support website says it all, “Firmware update 7.8 adds AirPlay 2 support to 802.11n AirPort Express base stations.” Although since 2013 Apple hasn’t refreshed the AirPort Express line.
Apple’s AirPort Express 2 has a feature not included in most wireless routers: an audio port. This allows almost any speaker to be plugged in. It also has 802.11a/b/g/n and supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless bands.
The original version of AirPlay allows you to wirelessly stream audio from an Apple computer to a compatible speaker. But with AirPlay 2, the audio can be simultaneously streamed to more than one speaker. Plus, the new version allows multiple Apple devices to interact with the audio being streamed. AirPlay 2 only came to iPhone and iPad with iOS 11.4 this spring.
